Identity Theft Online Through Social Networking Sites

With social networking website becoming more of a common lifestyle for most people, it has become the easiest way for individuals to become victims of identity theft. Individuals who log into their Facebook accounts or Twitter accounts on a daily basis, either on their personal, work or public computers can be victims of this crime.

You may notice large amounts of emails from individuals who you may know from your Facebook account, but are clearly spam emails. These are the first sign that either you or your friends have been attacked. You can also notice if messages about certain products have been sent through your account as a status update without your knowledge. This is another sign that someone has been able to hack into your account. These although minor, are the beginning stages of identity theft online.
